Cancellation Overview

AYSA will do it's best to communicate all cancellations in a timely manor following the below guidelines. Referees have the final say on cancelling or delaying games because of weather conditions on the field. Parents Always have the right to not have their child play if they deem it to unsafe for their child.

What if the it's really hot out?

When the temperature is at 90 degrees and the heat index is at a dangerous level, 5:30 or earlier games will be suspended by AYSA, Bay-Lakes, or the referee and may be rescheduled. Later matches may still be played but should incorporate longer and/or more frequent breaks. Plenty of fluids should be available.

What about cold weather

When the temperature drops below 30 degrees AND the wind chill index drops below zero, then the match should be suspended by AYSA, Bay-Lakes, or the referee and may be rescheduled at another time.

Lightning and Thunder

In the event of a storm, play must be stopped and suspended by the referee at the field until the danger has passed using the following criteria as a minimum.

  • Sighting of a lightning flash OR the hearing of the associated thunder shall be reason to stop and suspend a game.

  • Play shall not be resumed prior to 30 minutes after the last sighting of lightning OR the last sound of thunder heard.

Fog and Visibility

When standing at one goal you can’t see the other goal, the game may be suspended by the referee at the field.

Wind

When the ball is placed on level ground and it does not remain stationary, the game may be suspended by the referee at the field.

Field Conditions

When a field is in poor or dangerous playing condition, games may be suspended or relocated by AYSA, Bay-Lakes, or the referee

Severe Wet Weather

AYSA, Bay-Lakes, or the referee may cancel a game if wet weather has made the field unsafe.

Time Constraint Delays and Cancellations

If a game is in a time constraint, such as other games being played on the same field later, the earlier game might not have the liberty of waiting the 30 minutes to simply delay, but instead be cancelled.

Cancellation Communication

Players and coaches are reminded to show up at the field if they do not receive a phone call canceling the game. In age groups where there are no referees, the coaches will decide if the game should be canceled.

Parental Concern

Parents always have the right to pull their child off the field if they think there is a danger.
