The Draft and Team Notification

Teams are determined by a blind draft held in mid March.
The players are selected randomly from a player “pool.”
The draft will be conducted by the Soccer Board and an independent official (see more below).
You are welcome to observe the process. Please contact a board member
if you would like to observe. Coaches will notify their players as to when
practices will begin.

Draft Information

Teams are filled in the following way:
A “blind draft” is conducted, where names for an age group are pulled from a hat.
If the age group is co-ed, the teams are mixed as evenly as possible with boys and girls.
Some consideration is given to experienced vs.
non-experienced players so that every team starts on equal footing.

Children of coaches and assistant coaches are placed on their parent’s team.
This is to prevent scheduling problems in families and as an incentive for
parents to coach. Without coaches, there are no teams.

Late Registration

Sometimes we have several late registrants who must be spread out to existing teams,
or, if necessary, create a new team of that age group.
This last minute juggling makes it difficult to maintain varied experience
and diversity on a team and does not guarantee a spot for anyone who wants to play.

In older groups, the number of participants drops due to other outside interests,
jobs, etc. In these cases, teams may be combined with other district participants
to form one team with a coach that may be from another community.
Again, we are striving to get a team and a coach for anyone who wants to play soccer.
